AUSTIN, Texas — Guilherme Biro scored a goal and added an assist to help Austin FC beat Houston Dynamo 3-1 on Tuesday night in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Austin opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Biro slipped a through ball to Diego Rubio, who calmly finished past Dynamo goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell for a 1-0 lead.
Houston equalized in the 39th minute when Ibrahim Aliyu pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home from close range.
Austin regained the lead just before halftime when Biro found space at the top of the box and curled a left-footed shot inside the far post.
Austin sealed the victory in the 78th minute when Sebastián Driussi converted a penalty kick after Memo Rodríguez was fouled in the area.
Austin advances to the quarterfinals for the first time in club history. The Dynamo, who won the tournament in 2018 and 2023, were eliminated in the Round of 16.
