CHICAGO — Hugo Cuypers scored twice and the Chicago Fire defeated the New England Revolution 3-1 on Monday night at Soldier Field.

Cuypers opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing a low cross from Maren Haile-Selassie to put the Fire ahead early. He added his second goal in the 64th, slotting home a rebound after Tom Barlow’s initial shot was saved.

Brian Gutiérrez capped the win with a goal in the 79th minute, curling a shot past Revolution goalkeeper Henrich Ravas from the top of the box.

New England pulled one back in stoppage time through Giacomo Vrioni, who converted a penalty after a VAR review for a handball.

The Fire (4-6-3) snapped a three-game winless streak. Chris Brady made four saves in goal for Chicago.

The Revolution (2-9-1) have now lost three straight and remain at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

Both teams return to action Saturday, with the Fire visiting Orlando City and the Revolution hosting NYCFC.
