FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 victory over USL League One side AV Alta FC on Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas took control early, with Jesús Ferreira opening the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a low cross from Paul Arriola. Arriola doubled the lead in the 33rd minute, converting a rebound after his initial shot was parried by AV Alta goalkeeper Carlos Avilez.
AV Alta FC pulled one back in the 58th minute through Jimmie Villalobos, who curled a shot past FC Dallas keeper Maarten Paes. However, FC Dallas restored their two-goal cushion in the 72nd minute when substitute Bernard Kamungo headed in a cross from Marco Farfan.
The win marks FC Dallas's first appearance in the Round of 16 since 2019. They will face the winner of the match between Houston Dynamo and Sacramento Republic FC in the next round.
AV Alta FC, an expansion team in USL League One, made their U.S. Open Cup debut this year and reached the third round after victories over Ventura County Fusion and FC Tulsa.
Attendance at Toyota Stadium was announced at 4,312.
