NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Hany Mukhtar scored a goal and added an assist to lead Nashville SC past Orlando City 3-2 on Tuesday night in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Mukhtar opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a through ball from Shaq Moore to put the hosts ahead early. Orlando equalized just before halftime through Duncan McGuire, who slotted home a rebound off a saved effort from Martín Ojeda.
Nashville regained the lead in the 58th minute when Sam Surridge headed in a Mukhtar corner. The home side extended the advantage to 3-1 in the 73rd with a goal from Jacob Shaffelburg on the counterattack.
Orlando pulled one back in stoppage time with a goal from Facundo Torres, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Nashville’s control.
Nashville SC advances to the quarterfinals for the second time in club history. Nashville will play D.C. United in the quarterfinals on a date to be determined.
