WPSL: Lou Fusz Athletic continues fast start with third straight shutout

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Three games, six days and three shutouts.


That’s the story for Lou Fusz Athletic’s WPSL team, which was unranked in the WPSL Preseason Top 25 but is playing some solid soccer atop the Midwest Conference-Gateway Division at 3-0-0.


Lou Fusz recorded a 1-0 victory over in-state rival Missouri Reign on Monday for the three points to give the club nine total points in the Gateway Division. LFA also defeated Peoria City FC 2-0 on May 24 and opened the season back on May 21 with a 7-0 triumph over Junction FC.


Talk about a productive week.


Lou Fusz Athletic has now outscored its opposition 10-0 after three matches while playing some lockdown defense and limiting scoring chances in each match.


Against rival Missouri Reign, Madison Vasiloff scored the game’s only goal in the 21st minute off a feed from Meghan Belrose. Caroline Ritter recorded the clean sheet in goal on the strength of seven saves.


Against Peoria City on Saturday, Meghan Belrose finished off a cross from Mia Devrouax in the 50th minute and Rylee Howard added an insurance tally in the 57th minute to cap the scoring. Ritter notched the shutout.


In the opener against Junction FC, Lou Fusz built a 3-0 lead by the halftime break before tacking on four more goals in the second half for the decisive win.


It wa sHoward that staked Lou Fusz to a 1-0 lead in just the seventh minute and the side was off and running. Meghan Vasiloff added a goal in the 27th and Olivia Baca sent one home in the 33rd for the 3-0 lead.


In the second half, Vasiloff struck again in the 46th minute for the 4-0 advantage, while Mia Devrouax notched the natural hat trick with goals in the 57th,k 61st and 68th minutes which capped the scoring outburst for LFA


Lou Fusz Athletic hits the road Friday night for a 7 p.m. match against FC Pride at the Pride Performance Center. The Pride is also unbeaten at 2-0-0 in the division with six points and holds a 6-3 scoring edge.
