General Manager Tommy Tanner Named Interim Head Coach

UTICA, N.Y. — Utica City FC announced Tuesday that the club has parted ways with Head Coach Hewerton Moreira following an internal evaluation of the organization’s competitive direction and long-term goals.

The decision marks a significant shift for the franchise as it refocuses on its commitment to building a championship-caliber team for the Utica community.

“We appreciate everything Hewerton has done for our organization,” said Utica City FC General Manager Tommy Tanner. “This decision does not come lightly and was extremely difficult. We wish Hewerton nothing but the best moving forward, and we are proud to have had him as our coach for the last four years.”

Moreira compiled a 46-33-6 record during his four seasons with the club, including a 2-5 mark in postseason play. Despite the on-field success, the organization determined it was time to move in a new direction.

“Our commitment as an organization is to win a championship,” Tanner said. “Our fans deserve excellence. They invest their time, passion, and trust in us, and it is our responsibility to match that commitment every single day.”

Tanner will assume the role of Interim Head Coach while the club conducts a search for its next permanent head coach. In the interim role, Tanner will oversee all on-field and off-field operations.

“We have the pieces and the opportunity to build a championship team,” Tanner added. “Our core is strong, and the organization is committed to growth that leads to a championship for Utica.”

Utica City FC will host a media availability with Tommy Tanner on Wednesday, February 11 at 12:30 p.m. at the Adirondack Bank Center. Media members may RSVP by contacting Michael Lehr.
