MLIS Week 8 Recap: Amarillo Rolls, Toronto Stays Perfect, Salt Lake City Wins Late

CHICAGO, Illinois — Week 8 of the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) season featured three matches, highlighted by a dominant performance from Amarillo, a high-scoring battle in Toronto, and a late comeback by Salt Lake City.
Amarillo Bombers 20, Dallas CD La Cuadra 2 (Saturday)Amarillo cruised to a 20-2 win over Dallas on Saturday night, building an early advantage with four goals in the first quarter and taking an 11-0 lead into halftime. The Bombers outshot Dallas 37-13 and controlled possession throughout the match.
Luis Esteban led Amarillo with five goals and one assist. Kike Canez added three goals and three assists, while Carlos Hernandez finished with one goal and four assists.
Dallas broke through in the third quarter when Chris Galarza scored at the 11:20 mark. Jonathan Sandoval added Dallas’ second goal in the fourth quarter. Amarillo scored nine times in the second half, including three power-play goals in the final period as Dallas struggled with multiple penalties. Esteban, Hernandez and Canez were named the match’s three stars.
Toronto Canadian Crusaders 11, Lansing Red Cedar FC 8 (Saturday)Toronto remained unbeaten with an 11-8 win over Lansing in a back-and-forth contest that stayed close through most of regulation. Toronto led 2-1 after the first quarter and held a 6-4 advantage at halftime after Lansing tied the match three times in the opening half.
Goalkeeper Filip Zendelek scored twice in the second quarter for Toronto. Franz Mella, Darius Kerr-Cooper and Sebastián López also found the net. Lansing received first-half goals from Joselito Rodrigues, Aidan Bagley, Cody Granville and Anthony Recinos.
Lansing cut the deficit to 6-5 in the third quarter, but Toronto answered with three straight goals to take a 9-5 lead. Lansing scored twice in the final minute of the quarter to make it 9-7. Toronto added two goals in the fourth quarter from López and Mella, while Bagley scored Lansing’s final goal. Toronto controlled possession late and converted key chances to secure the win.
Salt Lake City Utah Uprising 7, Boulder United FC 5 (Sunday)Salt Lake City scored twice in the final two minutes to earn a 7-5 win over Boulder on Sunday. Gui Leme broke a late tie with 1:21 remaining on a goal assisted by Leonardo Sobreira, and Jordan Peña sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.
Sobreira finished with three assists, while Peña and Chris Reyes each scored twice for Salt Lake City.
Standings UpdateFollowing Week 8, Toronto remains atop the North Conference with a 5-0 record, followed by the Cleveland Crunch and Pittsburgh Bridge City, both unbeaten through two matches. In the South Conference, Orlando Atletico Pro leads at 5-1, with Salt Lake City and Amarillo close behind.
