MLIS Match Week 5 Recap: Toronto, Orlando Stay Perfect

The fifth match week of the Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) season opened Dec. 13 with three evening matches and concluded Sunday with two more contests.
Below is a recap of the weekend’s action. Pittsburgh Bridge City 6, Lansing Red Cedar 2 (Dec. 13)Pittsburgh earned a 6–2 victory over Lansing on Saturday night. Jamie Luchini opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, giving Pittsburgh a 1–0 lead after one period.
The teams traded goals in the second quarter, with Gabriel Norris extending the lead before Lansing answered on a power-play goal by Youssef Bitar to make it 2–1 at halftime.
Pittsburgh controlled the second half, scoring power-play goals from Joshua Dimatteo and Luchini. Anthony Rowan and Marquis Flowers added to the lead before Lansing closed the scoring with a late goal from Cody Granville. Pittsburgh finished with a narrow edge in shots, 31–30.
Toronto Canadian Crusaders 11, Rockford Thunder 0 (Dec. 13)Toronto opened the weekend with an 11–0 shutout of Rockford. Tim Mahabir and Sebastián López scored in the opening quarter to give Toronto early control.
Yonis Jama and Chris Duenas added second-quarter goals as Toronto took a 4–0 lead into halftime, outshooting Rockford 16–7 through two periods.
Toronto added three goals in the third quarter and four more in the fourth. López, Duenas, Jama and Darius Kerr-Cooper each scored multiple goals. Rockford finished with 13 shots, while Toronto totaled 32.
Orlando Atletico Pro 8, Boulder United 4 (Dec. 13)Orlando traveled west and earned an 8–4 road win over Boulder. The match featured back-and-forth play before Orlando pulled away in the second half to secure the victory.
Toronto Canadian Crusaders 12, Rockford Thunder 5 (Dec. 14)Toronto completed the weekend sweep with a 12–5 win over Rockford on Sunday. Toronto jumped out to a 4–1 lead in the opening quarter with goals from Mahabir, Leaford Allen, Yevhenii Zaiets and Darius Kerr-Cooper.
Toronto added six goals in the second quarter to take a 10–2 lead into halftime. Rockford responded with three second-half goals, including two penalty-kick conversions by Emanuel Mercado, who finished with four goals.
Osman Hussein and Jason Alvarado scored in the third quarter to push Toronto’s lead to 12–3 before the Crusaders closed out the match defensively. Toronto improved to 4–0 and leads the North Conference.
Orlando Atletico Pro 12, Dallas CD La Cuadra 2 (Dec. 14)Orlando followed its win over Boulder with a 12–2 victory at Dallas. Orlando finished the weekend 2–0 and improved to 5–1, maintaining its lead in the South Conference.
