Sharks Slip Past Triumph 1-0

The visiting Corpus Christi Sharks squeaked out a 1-0 win over the Greenville Triumph on Upstate Stem Day at GE Vernova Park early Wednesday afternoon. Over 4000 students from all over the Upstate packed the park for the USL League One match between the two teams chasing the playoff line.

Corpus Christi scored the lone goal of the match in the 35^th minute as Dominick Bachstein found the nets for the Sharks in the win. Bachstein crashed his run at the near post and flicked in a low, driven cross from the right flank to provide the critical touch on the ball and the crucial points for the Sharks in their playoff push.

Corpus Christi moves all the way to ninth place with the win and now sits just three points out of a playoff spot. Greenville in the loss stayed mired in fifteenth place a full 13 points out of a playoff spot as the poor run of form continued for the Triumph who have now lost four of their last five matches including three in a row.

Red Cards to the Shark’s Arthur Medina in the 79^th minute and the Triumph’s Louis Herrera in the 90^th minute added to the storyline. Medina earned his second yellow card to see red after a reckless challenge on Triumph keeper Amal Knight on a floated cross. Herrera was caught 1v1 at midfield and committed a professional foul to keep the Corpus Christi forward from a clear goal-scoring moment.
