The Week That Was (Jan. 25): Amarillo Stays Hot, Chicago and Cleveland Earn Key Wins

CHICAGO, Illinois — Major League Indoor Soccer (MLIS) featured four matchups over the weekend, highlighted by a dominant pair of performances from the Amarillo Bombers and hard-fought victories by Chicago and Cleveland.


Amarillo secured back-to-back wins against Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, while the Cleveland Crunch and Chicago Mustangs each defended home turf in high-scoring contests.

Below is a full recap of the weekend’s action.




Amarillo Bombers vs. Las Vegas Turf Monsters

Saturday, Jan. 31

Amarillo pulled away late to earn a 13–4 victory over Las Vegas after a scoreless opening period. Las Vegas opened the scoring midway through the second quarter, but the Bombers responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3–1 halftime lead.


The Bombers broke the match open in the third quarter, scoring six goals while allowing just one, creating a commanding seven-goal cushion heading into the final period. Amarillo added four more goals in the fourth to close out the win.


Amarillo finished with 13 goals on 42 shots compared to 19 for Las Vegas. Miguel Reyes and Cleberson Rodrigues each recorded hat tricks, and the Bombers scored twice while short-handed. Las Vegas added two late goals, but Amarillo controlled the match throughout.

Pittsburgh Bridge City FC vs. Chicago Mustangs

Saturday, Jan. 31

Chicago edged Pittsburgh 7–6 in a tightly contested matchup at Grand Sports Arena. The teams were tied 1–1 after the first quarter, with Pittsburgh converting a penalty kick to equalize.

The Mustangs gained momentum late in the second quarter with two goals, taking a 3–1 lead into halftime. Pittsburgh responded with two goals in the third period, but Chicago answered with three of its own to regain control.


Pittsburgh mounted a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring three times and pulling within one goal in the closing minutes. Chicago added a key insurance goal midway through the period and held on to secure the win.

Chicago outshot Pittsburgh 41–23 as the Mustangs survived the late comeback attempt.



Amarillo Bombers vs. Salt Lake City Utah Uprising

Sunday, Feb. 1

Amarillo completed a dominant weekend with a 14–4 road win over Salt Lake City at Sport City Utah. The Bombers jumped out to an early lead with two first-quarter goals and added four more in the second to take a 6–1 advantage into halftime.


Salt Lake City scored twice in the third quarter to cut into the deficit, but Amarillo responded with three goals to maintain control. The Bombers closed the match with five goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Amarillo finished with 14 goals on 32 shots. Pedro Francisco Castaneda, David Trevizo and Emanuel Celaya each recorded multi-goal performances in a balanced offensive effort.


Ft. Wayne Summit City Sentinels vs. Cleveland Crunch

Sunday, Feb. 1

Cleveland used a fast start to defeat Ft. Wayne 13–8 at the Wolstein Center. The Crunch scored five times in the opening quarter and followed with four more in the second to take a 9–3 lead into halftime.

Cleveland continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, adding four goals while limiting Ft. Wayne to one, extending the lead to 13–4. Ft. Wayne outscored Cleveland in the fourth quarter with four goals, including a penalty kick, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Cleveland finished with 13 goals on 36 shots compared to 20 for Ft. Wayne. Rookie Jamon McCort led the Crunch with a hat trick as Cleveland showcased a balanced offensive performance.
