THE LEAGUE FOR CLUBS: FC Davis continues winning ways, blanks Afghan Premier to reach NorCal semifinals

DAVIS, Calif. – After posting draws during its final two regular season games, Football Club Davis returned to its winning ways Saturday in the opening round of NorCal Conference playoffs.


FC Davis scored one goal in the first half and tacked on three more after halftime as the top-seeded Golden Lions tamed Afghan Premier FC 4-0 in The League For Clubs NorCal Conference quarterfinals Saturday at Playfields Soccer Stadium.


It marked FC Davis’ second clean sheet against Afghan Premier this month, as the Golden Lions also defeated Afghan 2-0 back on June 1 in regular season play.


FC Davis finished 10-0-2 in the regular season of the Nor Cal Conference to grab the regular season title and No. 1 seed in the NorCal playoffs. After tying both San Ramon FC (2-2) and Iron Rose FC (0-0) back on June 7 and June14, respectively, the Golden Lions didn’t disappoint Saturday night on their home field.


Lucas Ferndandez-Kim scored a goal in the 22nd minute for what proved to be the game-winner. The talented forward was not done on the night, as he sent two more shots into the back of the net in the second half to net the hat trick in the contest.


Antony Melendrez pushed the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 74th minute for a needed insurance tally.


Fernandez-Kim scored the final two goals to put the game out of reach. He booted home goals in the 83rd minute and 88th minute to cap the scoring and secure the top-seeded Golden Lions would advance to the NorCal Conference semifinals next weekend in Daivs, California.


FC Davis improved to 11-0-2 on the season and have now outscored the opposition 38-16 this year. The win marked the team’s sixth shutout of the 2025 campaign.


Gerardo Perez-Plata notched the clean sheet underneath the framework, while Diego Marquez, Matthew Martinez, Mustafa Ali and Alexis Garcia-Ayala joined forces for a fine defensive effort.


It marked the team’s second straight shutout, as the Golden Lions recorded five shutouts in the regular season and now one more in the NorCal playoffs. FC Davis now has a 1.24 goals-against-average as a team while the Golden Lions have averaged 2.93 goals-per-game offensively.


FC Davis will host San Ramon FC the weekend of June 28-29 for the NorCal semifinals. Napa Valley 1839 FC will take on Yuba FC in the other semifinals clash.
