NAPA, Calif. – Dafrio Pavon scored an 84th minute goal Saturday and that was the game-winner in keeping Napa Valley 1839 FC’s season alive.
Pavon’s late goal separated the hosts and led them to a 3-2 victory in tThe League For Clubs Nor Cal Conference Quarterfinals at Napa Justin-Siena High School..
Down 1-0 early courtesy of a Piero Menchola shot that deflected off a Napa Valley defender and into the goal back in the 15th minute, Luis Ramirez tied the game with a tally in the 17th minute barely two minutes after the Albion strike.
Albion SC Silicon Valley went ahead a second time in the 25th minute when Menchola tallied again to put his side up 2-1.
It was Ramirez who tied the game again in the 31st minute with a strike to equalize the game at 2-2.
Neither team was able to score again until Pavon’s late-game heroics.
Thomas Grimes gained the win in goal for Napa Valley 1839 FC after he made six saves for the winners.
Napa Valley 1839 FC finished 9-2-1 in the regular season and in third place in the NorCal standings with 31 points along with Oakland SC. Napa Valley (now 10-2-1 overall) outscored its opposition 44-17 for a plus-27.
Albion SC Silicon Valley finished the regular season 5-5-2 overall before the quarterfinals defeat. Silicon Valley finishes the year 5-6-2 and was outscored 27-21 this season.
