OKFC still putting up gaudy offensive and defensive numbers behind 8-0-1 start

OKLAHOMA CITY — It’s still only June, but the Hartland Division title of the Women’s Premier Soccer League belongs to Oklahoma City FC.

The side captured a pair of wins this past week, downing Side FC OKC 2-0 on June 16 and came back Saturday night (June 21) with a resounding 5-0 triumph over FC Wichita to move to 8-0-1 on the season with 25 points in the Heartland Division.

The nearest competitor is Union KC back in second place with 16 points – meaning that even Union KC can’t catch the league leaders.

It marks the sixth division title in the club’s 17-year WPSL history but the first since 2017 – ending an eight-year drought.

Oklahoma City FC has been dominant all season, collecting an 8-0-1 division record with a 34-5 scoring edge and five shutouts. The side has never been kept off the scoreboard in nine games and the only draw was against Union KC (1-1) earlier this month on June 10.

Oklahoma City FC opened with five wins before the draw and now have won three straight to secure a berth in the postseason which begins in July.

Against Side FC OKC last Monday, Londynn Hagan scored twice with goals in the 57th and 84th minutes. Breanna Wooten notched the shutout on six saves for Oklahoma City FC.

In Saturday’s clash with FC Wichita (2-4-3) in a game played at Mustang (Okla.) High School, Oklahoma City FC exploded for five goals in the second half to win going away.

Samantha Guzman scored in the 46th minute to put her side up 1-0, while Rylee McLanahan scored in the 51st to up the ante to 2-0.

Londynn Hagan netted another goal in the 77th, while McLanahan scored again in the 77th and in the 82nd minutes. McLanahan’s final shot deflected off a FC Wichita defender and into the back of the net to cap the scoring.

With the unbeaten record intact and the division title all wrapped up with less than two weeks left in the regular season, Oklahoma City FC’s numbers keep swelling. Using an array of center backs and wingbacks, the team now has a 0.56 goals-against-average to go along with the five shutouts.

Goalkeepers Breanna Woote (Oklahoma Christian University) and Callie Sullivan (University of Oklahoma) have shared time in goal and both goalkeepers are under 0.70 in the GAA department. The team has only conceded two goals in its last four matches.

The offense is averaging 3.78 goals-per-game. Narissa Fults (University of Arizona), who did not score in the last two games, leads the team with seven goals and is one of 10 players who have scored this season for Oklahoma City FC. Hagan, a junior-to-be at Mustang (Okla.) High School, and McLanahan, a senior-to-be at Edmond (Okla.) North High School and a decorated youth player, have contributed six goals apiece, while Sabrina Guzman (Grand Canyon University) has scored four and Samantha Guzman (Oral Roberts University) has contributed three goals to the balanced attack.
