LEESBURG, Va. – Survive and advance.
That’s the name of the game in a national tournament environment.
The LA Krewe Rush did just that Saturday night at the Revolution SportsPlex near Leesburg, Virginia.
After the two teams were tied at the end of regulation, the LA Krewe Rush scored twice in the first of two overtime periods and posted a 3-1 victory over McLean Soccer in the South Region semifinals.
The LA Krew Rush, which defeated top-ranked Pensacola FC last weekend, advance to the South Region finals at 6 p.m. July 13 against Chattanooga FC.
Rammine Noel scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 103rd minute of the first 15-minute overtime period, then watched teammate Maria Portas send home an insurance tally one minute later to seal the deal for the LA Krewe Rush (7-1-2).
Hailey Waterhouse staked the LA Krewe to a 1-0 lead when she broke the stalemate with a 77th-minute goal.
McLean Soccer’s Evelyn Javers forced overtime with a late goal at the 90+2 mark and just minutes from the end of stoppage time with her goal that leveled the game at 1-1.
McLean just couldn’t put another goal past LA Krewe netminder Lauryn Starwood.
LA Krewe now have a 26-11 scoring edge this season. The side are 3-0-2 in its last five matches and the Delta Basin Division and Gulf Coast Conference champions have a plus-15 differential and have scored 14 goals in its last five games.
The Krewe also average 2.60 goals-per-match and hold a 1.10 goals-against-average this season.
McLean Soccer captured both the District Division and Atlantic Conference titles this season and finished 7-2-1. McClean did post four shutouts in 10 games and outscored its opposition 26-12 and had a respectable 1.20 goals-against-average.
