WPSL: Columbus Eagles FC shock No. 2-ranked FC Dayton with 4-1 upset

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just a couple of weeks of games into the WPLS season and the Columbus Eagles FC are already making national headlines.
The Eagles FC opened up their 2025 campaign with a resounding 4-1 upset over No. 2-ranked FC Dayton in WPSL-Great River Division play at Historic Crew Stadium Sunday, knocking off one of the pre-season favorites.
Nikki Cox netted the hat trick for Columbus (1-0-0), as Cox gave her team a 2-0 cushion and later added her third tally for a 3-1 advantage in the second half. Angela Boyce closed the scoring for the Eagles with a late goal.
Eleana Smith pulled back a goal in the first half for FC Dayton that trimmed the deficit down to 2-1, but the visitors would not strike again.
