Walled Lake Northern Knights Ready to Take the Next Step in 2025
WALLED LAKE — After a rebuilding year in 2024, the Walled Lake Northern boys soccer team enters the new season with higher expectations and a stronger, more experienced roster.
The Knights finished 6-12 overall last fall, placing sixth in the tough Lakes Valley Conference before falling to Bloomfield Hills in the opening round of the district tournament. Much of that team was built around a young core, with several sophomores asked to carry major roles.
This fall, that same group returns with another year of experience, joined by a deeper senior class that provides leadership and balance across the field.
“We were very young last year,” Head Coach Mario Tartaglia said. “Now those sophomores are juniors, and we’ve added a strong cluster of seniors. We have depth in every position, and I think people will be impressed with this group.”
Key players include forward Nolan McHenry, defender Rocco Bruckman, midfielders Ryan Donato and Andrew Xiong, and goalkeeper Chase Colasanti. Senior leaders such as Nathan Bruss, Brandon Honkala, and Taj Spencer are expected to anchor the defense, while attackers like Tim Udovichenk and JJ Roberts give Northern options in the final third.
With a stronger lineup in place, the Knights have set ambitious goals: competing for the LVCC title, winning a district championship, and making a deep run in the Division 1 state tournament.
“This year we have the experience and the depth to compete at a high level,” Tartaglia said. “We want to win the conference, we want to win districts, and we believe this team can make noise in the state tournament.”
