BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Bucks enter the 2025 boys soccer season looking to build on last year’s 13-3-3 campaign and a runner-up finish in the Lakeland Conference. The Bucks posted a 3-0-3 league record in 2024, falling just behind Berrien Springs, and saw their season end with a 5-2 district semifinal loss to the Shamrocks.

This fall, Buchanan returns a strong nucleus led by senior midfielder Jacob Kuntz, senior forward Preston Payne, and junior midfielder Easton May — all of whom earned all-district and all-conference recognition last season. Supporting them are senior defender Hunter Harrington, sophomore defender Payson Regan, sophomore midfielder Nico Sanchez, sophomore defender Treyton Teshka, sophomore goalkeeper Charley Cowart, and senior defender Caiden Troup, each of whom received all-conference honors.

The Bucks also expect immediate contributions from sophomores Caden McMahon and Matt Robles, who are projected to log significant minutes.

Coach Ryan Haines and staff have outlined ambitious goals for the season:

  • Capture the annual VanDenBerg Invitational on Aug. 16, a tournament Buchanan has not won in more than a decade.

  • Reach double-digit wins for a second consecutive season.

  • Win the Lakeland Conference championship.

  • Claim a district title.

To prepare, Buchanan has bolstered its non-conference schedule with matchups against Edwardsburg (Division 2), Fennville (Division 3), and Paw Paw (Division 3). The program hopes the tougher slate will better position the Bucks for postseason play.

With a mix of proven senior leadership and talented underclassmen, Buchanan is aiming for a breakthrough year in Division 3.
