USL W LEAGUE: NC Courage open up tourney with shutout over Eagle FC

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – NC Courage U23 advanced to the USL W League quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Eagle FC on Thursday night at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium, continuing their unbeaten campaign.
Goals from Emma Sexton and Camryn Goff powered the South Atlantic Division champion Courage, while a composed defensive effort limited Eagle FC’s chances.
Sexton opened the scoring midway through the first half, slotting home a low finish off a through ball from Sydney Martineau. Goff doubled the lead early in the second half with a curling strike from the edge of the box.
Goalkeeper Kayla Lisenby kept the clean sheet for the Courage, who improved to 11-0-1 on the season.
NC Courage U23, which now owns a 33-9 scoring edge this season, will face the host Annapolis FC in the USL W League quarterfinals also at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Mid-Atlantic Division champion Eagle FC finishes the year 7-3-1 overall and with a 25-14 scoring edge.
