LEESBURG, Va. – Lionsbridge FC already had one of the more potent offenses in the entire USL League Two.
On Wednesday, the club took it to a whole new level.
The Bridge set a new club record for goals in a match in an 11-2 rout of host Virginia Marauders FC Wednesday night in a USL League Two-Chesapeake Division contest at Segra Field – one of the most lopsided wins in the entire USL League Two this season.
After an early 1-1 stalemate through the sixth minute, Lionsbridge FC ended up scoring six total first-half goals for a 6-1 halftime advantage and then outscored the hosts 5-1 over the final 45 minutes to keep the side atop the Chesapeake Division with 14 points.
The unbeaten Bridge (5-0-2, 4-0-2 Chesapeake Division) now own a 30-8 scoring edge and one shutout in their six USL Chesapeake Division games and are one of 31 clubs that have scored 10 or more goals so far this season.
The 30 goals lead the 144-team USL League Two through June 4.
Gabriel Rodriguez scored in the third minute for visiting Lionsbridge FC, while Chance Hollins pulled it back with an equalizer for Virginia Marauders in the sixth minute.
That was the last ray of light for the host Marauders enjoyed on this evening.
Lionsbridge FC scored the game’s next nine goals between the seventh and 84th minutes to blow the game open.
Rodriguez netted the brace with his second goal in just the seventh minute, which gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage. The floodgates opened after that point.
Lincoln Ulrich (26th), Denis Krioutchenkov (37th), Felix Ewald (42nd), Krioutchenkov (45th) helped open up the five-goal lead by the half.
In his club debut, Evan Howard netted the natural hat trick with the first three goals of the second half with tallies in the 47th, 69th and 73rd minutes, while Ricardo Louis scored a goal in the 84th to open up the 10-1 advantage.
Hollis finally pulled one back for Virginia in the 85th but the irreversible damage had long since been done.
Louis capped the scoring for Lionsbridge FC with a goal in the 86th minute.
Rodrigues, Louis and Howard also drew single assists in the game. Joshua Baker added two assists and Constantinos Christou, Marcello Lopes and Andrew Bennett chipped in with one helper apiece.
Mitch Budler recorded the win in goal for Lionsbridge, which has a five-point lead on both the Annapolis Blues FC and Northern Virginia FC. Both of those clubs have nine points.
The Virginia Marauders FC fell to 1-2-2 on the year and into fifth place in the Chesapeake Division, while the club has now been outscored 18-6 this season.
Lionsbridge FC will host the Annapolis Blues FC at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Virginia Marauders FC will host Northern Virginia FC the same day.
