BRIGHTON, Mich. – The first game in Detroit Metro FC history is in the books. So is the franchise’s first victory.
Detroit Metro FC opened up the 2025 season – its inaugural campaign – with a resounding 5-1 United Premier Soccer League Premier Midwest-East Conference victory Saturday over FK Olimpik-Macomb at the Legacy Center near Brighton, Mich.
“Opening night was more than win – it was a statement,” beamed Detroit Metro FC coach and GM Alex Lubyanski. “We built DMFC from scratch with a simple mission: bring pro-level soccer to our community without asking permission. The players – most had never played together. The crowd was electric. And the energy – pure Michigan grit.”
Detroit Metro FC never trailed in the contest and posted a 13-12 shots advantage in the match, including 10-6 with shots frame, and even provided the game’s only four cornerkicks. Detroit Metro FC (1-0-0) scored twice in the first half and was able to pull away during the final 45 minutes of play.

After the visitors cut the into the deficit in the 52nd minute, Detroit Metro responded by scoring three more times down the stretch to secure the victory.
Dehane Gnonrou staked the hosts to the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on his team’s second shot on frame. He took a pass from Derek Broche and blasted home his shot from near the top of the box.
Max Rugova pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the 26th minute off a slotted pass from the right side from Daniel Wright which sailed into the middle of the park and Rugova cashed in his paycheck to extend the lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner.
FK Olympik-Macomb came out and played with more energy and a sense of urgency in the second half and evened up the level of play. The hard work proved to pay dividends as FK Olimpik’s Alexsandar Spirovski’s laced in a shot from distance in the 52nd minute to trim it down to 2-1..
FK Olympik-Macomb was snakebit, twice hitting the framework in the first half and just barely misfiring wide on some counterattacks in both halves.
Meanwhile, Detroit Metro FC controlled possession for over 95 percent of the first half but FK Olimpik was able to even up the possession after halftime.
Detroit Metro's Derick Broche pushed the lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute when he buried a cross from Regova. Wright scored on a great individual effort, turning a 180 spin move from the right side and in a fluid motion ripped a shot above traffic that sailed into the left upper 90 of the goal in the 83rd minute for the 4-1 cushion..
Gnonrou netted the brace to cap the scoring in the 90th minute.
Detroit Metro FC goalkeeper Joe Smith earned the win under the framework with five saves in six chances.
