ROCKFORD, Mich. – Rockford has played every bit of a difficult schedule in the early weeks of the 2025 season.
All five programs the Rams have faced have been to at least one Final Four in the last six seasons – opponents such as Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, Byron Center, East Grand Rapids and Plainwell.
Rockford captured its second straight win Saturday at home with a 4-0 non-conference victory over Plainwell to move to 2-1-2 on the campaign.
The Rams returned 17 of their 25 players from last year and picked up four different goal scores against Plainwell. Georgia Bosscher, Ryan Whitford, Audrey Muterspaugh and Grace Young scored for the Rams.
Rockford actually captured the Ottawa Kent Conference Red Division championship last season, finishing second in the regular season at 4-0-3 and in second place but captured the OKC-Red Conference Tournament title with a 3-0-0 record and enough to collect 15 total points to steal the overall conference crown from then-top-ranked Hudsonville.
The Rams lost in the district finals to Grand Haven 1-0 in a game that reached a shootout. That was the sole loss that Rockford suffered last season, as the Rams finished 12-1-5 overall with a stellar 40-6 scoring edge.
So far this season, Rockford has outscored the opposition 8-4 over five games and have posted two straight shutouts. Only one team has been able to score more than one goal against the Rams this season (Forest Hills Central in a 2-1 season-opening loss) and only one team scored more than one goal against them in all of 2024 (Holland West Ottawa in a 2-2 tie).
TROY ATHENS 4, TRENTON 2: Four different players scored goals and the Red Hawks continued their fast start to the 2025 season by doubling up Trenton Saturday. Charlotte Cotta, Lauren DeJonckheere, Lily Graves and Lily Greaves and Lily Cavataio scored the goals with Cavataio’s being her first career goal. Athens moved to 4-0-0 on the season with an impressive 11-3 scoring edge.
GIBRALTAR-CARLSON 2, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 0: Jillian Farago had a goal and an assist to pace Carlson Saturday. Josi Farago also scored and Kate Fromman stopped two shots for the clean sheet in the first game of the Carlson tournament.
GIBRALTAR-CARLSON 3, MONROE 1: Josi Farago scored twice and Carlson finished 2-0 at its own Carlson Tournament Saturday. Izzy Sgro also scored for the Marauders. Freshmen Juliana Guzman and Jillian Farago notched assists for the winners, who own a 6-1 scoring edge this season as part of their 3-0-0 start.
MILAN 1, PARMA WESTERN 0: Emaa Budd scored the goal as Miland escaped with the non-league win Saturday. Olivia Henry recorded the shutout for the Big Reds in their season opening win.
