OXFORD, Mich. – Coming off a Division 1 district championship season, Lake Orion hopes to continue its upward trend this spring.
The Dragons continued its fast start to the 2025 campaign Tuesday, topping host and arch-rival Oxford 3-0 in an OAA crossover game. The least time these two teams met came in a district semifinals clash last June at Davison where the Dragons prevailed in a wild affair, 6-5, in double overtime.
There was much more defense and fewer fireworks this time around. Lake Orion scored three goals in a 17-minute span of the first half and defensively shut down the Wildcats for 80 minutes and to improve top 2-0-0. The Dragons hold a 7-12 scoring edge so far this season.
Senior Sydney Goodman, a forward/marking back who has signed with NCAA Division I Depaul University, assisted on the first goal when she laced a cornerkick into traffic and Kendall Jakubiak headed it home for what proved to be the game-winner in the first half.
Lillian Brodski scored off a rebound a few minutes later and then Goodman served up Mary Graves with a breakaway feed and she delivered the insurance goal to cap the scoring late in the first half.
Kylie Kopitzki notched the clean sheet for Lake Orion, which returns 16 players to its roster from a team that finished a respectable 16-7-1 overall. The Dragons outscored the opposition 74-29 last season with nine shutouts before losing to Hartland (3-2) in the Division 1 regional semifinals.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 3, MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH 2: Oakland Christian is coming off a season where the Lancers made a run to the division 4 final Four. On tuesday, they were able to opened up the 2025 campaign with this non-conference victory over Division 3 Lutheran North. Rowan Klein, Jess Reyes and Val Santurtun scored the goals for Oakland Christian.
MUSKEGON MONA SHORES 5, FRUITPORT 0: Mona shores hit the road for the first time this season and came back with this OKC crossover victory, the team’s third straight win. Five different goal scorers found the back of the net for the Sailors, including Ava Freye, Ella Kinney, Katie Phillips, Lauren Phillips and Ella Charlandto.Katie Phillips added two assists for good measure, while Ella Charland, Kendall Braginton and Lauren Phillips added one helper apiece for Mona Shores (3-1-0). Abby Buikema turned aside two shots for her team’s third straight shutout, while Kylie Dusenberry, Addison Fisher, Harper Robinson and Amelia Coffin starred defensively for the Sailors.
