MICHIGAN GIRLS SOCCER: Namel’s game-tying goal helps St. Catherine tie Country Day; Forest Hills Central blanks rival Forest Hills Eastern; GR Catholic Central blanks Grand Rapids Christian

WIXOM, Mich. – Joanna Namel saved Wixom St. Catherine Friday.


The senior midfielder for St. Catherine scored the game-tying goal in the 77th minute to help the host Stars earn a 1-1 draw with state powerhouse Detroit Country Day in a Michigan girls soccer non-league clash. 


Lauren Heldke picked up the assist for Wixom St. Catherine. Kate Jennings was in net for the Stars.


Jenna Shaben gave DCD the 1-0 advantage in the 62nd minute when she blasted home her opportunity. Mercedez Arinez played in goal for the Yellowjackets (2-1-1).

GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS CENTRAL 5, GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS EASTERN 0: Forest Hills Central is normally one of the better teams in Michigan each season. 


Last year the Rangers finished 15-6-1 overall and won a district championship in Division 2. Forest Hills Central outscored the opposition 64-21 with 13 shutouts as a team that was ranked all season long.


Apparently, the Rangers have reloaded once again. 


Forest Hills Central has opened up the 2025 season in fine fashion with a 4-0-0 record, including making one of its nearby rivals Forest Hills Eastern its latest victim.

  

Five different gobplayers scored goals for the Rangers, who have outscored their opposition 14-2 this season with two shutouts. 


It marked the first loss of the season for Forest Hills Eastern, which owns a 13-6 scoring edge.


GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL 1, GRAND RAPIDS CHRISTIAN 0: After finishing 10-8-1 overall last season, Grand Rapids Catholic Central is trying to right the ship and be a contender in 2025. 


The Cougars are off to a quality start after just two weeks of action.

Catholic Central earned another win Friday at Grand Rapids Christian, moving to 3-0-1 with the victory.


Senior midfielder Emma Mead socred the lone goal for the Cougars, who have outscored the opposition 12-4 this season and recorded their second straight shutout in the win over the Eagles.


Grand Rapids Christian slipped to 0-3-0 this season with the loss. 


CEDAR SPRINGS 3, MUSKEGON REETHS-PUFFER 0: Audrey Crawford scored twice and the Red Hawks notched the non-league win. Junior Ella Peck also scored for Cedar Springs (2-0-0), which notched its second clean sheet of the season. 


BELDING 6, KENT CITY: Dankia Church scored a pair of goals as Belding won this non-league contest Friday to improve to 3-2-0 overall. Ken City slipped to 0-1-1 on the year.


GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 14, GRAND RAPIDS OTTAWA HILLS 0: The Huskies scored early and often in recording this OKC crossover win Friday. Forest Hills Northern moved to 2-0-3 overall on the young campaign and have outscored its opposition 22-5. 


GRAND RAPIDS SOUTH CHRISTIAN 1, HOLLAND CHRISTIAN 0: South Christian edged out the Maroons Friday night in highly-touted teams in the state’s west side. The Sailors (4-0-0) have recorded three straight shutouts and have outscored their opposition 21-1 this season.


ZEELAND EAST 0, ZEELAND WEST 0: These two rivals settled little in this  Ottawa Kent Confer ence-black Division contest. Zeeland East moved to 2-0-1 overall and have posted three straight shutouts to open the season. Zeeland West moved to 0-1-1 but has yet to score this season.


HUDSONVILLE UNITY CHRISTIAN 9, HAMILTON 0: Unity Christian posted its third straight shutout and coasted to this OKC-black Division win. The Crusaders (4-0-0, 1-0-0) have outscored the opposition 21-1 this season.


MARINE CITY CARDINAL MOONEY 2, CHESTERFIELD AUSTIN CATHOLIC 0: Cardinal Mooney earned the CHSL-Intersectional shutout win Friday over Austin Catholic. 


WYOMING POTTER’S HOUSE CHRISTIAN 5, WYOMING GODWIN HEIGHTS 0: Potter’s House cruised to the non-league win Friday.
