WILLIAMSTON, Mich. – Both Birmingham Marian and Williamston share the common thread of winning state championships in their storied pasts.

That was the only thing the two programs had in common Friday afternoon.

The Division 2 state powerhouse Mustangs, last season’s state runner-up, rebounded from a 2-0 defeat by Troy Athens the day earlier with a resounding 7-0 non-conference victory over Williamston at the Williamston Soccer Complex.

Emma Wyciskalla opened the scoring just four minutes into the match to set the tone and Marian wound up scoring three times in the first half before tacking on four more second-half tallies for the road victory.

Nia Bordogna converted a penalty kick goal with 21 minutes remaining in the first half for the 2-0 advantage and Lilly Robinson headed home a Brook Salkowski cornerkick with 10 minutes left in the first half  as the Mustangs were firing on all cylinders.

Robinson added a penalty kick goal, while Wyciskalla and Bordogna added unassisted goals later in the second half for the 6-0 advantage. Bordogna set up teammate Frankie Kulpa with the late goal to cap the scoring.

Olivia Bussa notched the shutout between the framework for Marian.

The Mustangs (4-1-0) have now outscored the opposition 20-4 to open the season and have recorded two clean sheets defensively.

Williamston dropped to 1-1-0 on the year.

UTICA EISENHOWER 8, STERLING HEIGHTS STEVENSON 0: The Eagles opened up the 2025 season with this MAC crossover victory over the titans, who suffered their first loss of the season. Ellera Jakubowski, Devyn Raymond and Gabby Gojcaj all scored two goals apiece for Eisenhower (1-0-0). Sam Losh and Priti Cahill also scored, while Lily Pantaleo and Maryn Smith both had two assists and Chahil added a single helper for the Eagles. Stevenson dropped to 2-1-0 on the season.

PONTIAC NOTRE DAME PREP 5, WATERFORD MOTT 5: These two non-league opponents battled through countless scoring chances and a total of `10 goals before settling for the draw Friday. Notre Dame Prep moved to 3-2-2 on the season with a 23-8 scoring edge, while Mott moved to 2-0-1 with a 20-7 scoring edge on the young campaign. Cate Jesena and Emily Teolis both finished with two goals and an assist while Liv Warner added a goal and Keira Maher chipped in with two assists for the Fighting Irish.
