MICHIGAN PREP GIRLS SOCCER: Unity Christian blanks Mona Shores; Fremont, East Kentwood win big

MUSKEGON, Mich. – Hudsonville Unity Christian has been moved up from Division 3 to Division 2 this season for MHSAA postseason play.
The winning tradition has not changed.
The Crusaders, listed as a team to watch this season in Division 2 by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association, improved to 2-0-0 on the young season Monday with a 4-0 victory over host Muskegon Mona Shores, a program listed as one to watch this year in Division 1.
Unity Christian held a 10-5 difference with shots on goal and picked up goals from Ava Lutke, Kyla Kobrzycki, Tessa Ponstein and Ella Sage.
Senior Kennedee Crump, last year’s backup, recorded her first shutout of the season for Unity Christian (2-0-0).
Abby Buikema recorded six saves in goal for Mona Shores (0-1-0), which has spent a lot of time in the Division 1 state rankings in the last decade.
Mona Shores girls varsity soccer team lost 4-0 tonight against Unity Christian in non-conference action. Abby Buikema made 6 saves in the net for the Sailors. The Crusaders outshot Mona Shores 10-5 on the night.

FREMONT 6, COMSTOCK PARK 0: The Packers went on the road Monday to open the 2025 season and came away with this non-league victory. Mia Clemence notched the hat trick and added an assist to get a foot into four of her team’s goals. Esther Vissia added a goal and an assist, while Riley Chase and Maddie Mater also scored for Fremont (1-0-0). Hallie Snyder recorded four saves for the shutout. Mia Clemence led the Packers with a hat trick and an assist, while Esther Vissia added a goal and an assist. Riley Chase and Maddie Mater each chipped in a single score. Anna Norris had an assist.
EAST KENTWOOD 7, GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC 1: East Kentwood looks to be one of the more improved teams in the state this season. The Falcons tripped up a quality West Catholic squad to move to 2-0-1 this season. East Kentwood has outscored its three opponents 16-4 this season.
