TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma City 1889 opened up the 2025 season not just in the new The League For Clubs, but against a cross-state rival.

Oklahoma City 1889 also picked up a win in the opener, outlasting host Tulsa Athletic 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference matchup at Hicks Bark Field in Tulsa.

Did we say that Oklahoma City 1889 did so not just in comeback style, but by scoring both goals in stoppage time to storm back on its rivals to the east.

Andre Luiz Lopes scored the game-tying goal at the 90+4 mark at the tail end of the second half. Oklahoma City 1889 (1-0-0, 1-0-0) was not done.

Matthew Barbirati notched the game-winner at 90+5 – just seconds before the final whistle – to finish off the miraculous comeback job to open the season with the win.

Davide Palade scored in the 8th minute to stake Tulsa Athletic to a 1-0 advantage

Tulsa Athletic could not hold on to the momentum and lead and slipped to 0-1-0 overall and in the Mid American Conference.
