MICHIGAN GIRLS SOCCER: Trenton cruises past Allen Park for first win; Troy topples Brighton in battle of raked teams; Quincy, defending FML champ Goodrich, Garden City, Kettering all impressive in wins
TRENTON, Mich. – Trying to work in some new starters and goalkeeper, coupled with a brutally-tough non-conference schedule, the pathway to success was more difficult in the opening weeks of the 2025 girls soccer season.
The unranked Trojans opened the season 0-3-0 against Division 1 and Division 2 state-ranked opponents.
Trenton finally reversed that uncommon trend on Monday night, topping Allen Park 6-1 in the Downriver League for both teams.
Chloe Wishart (Northwood University) p[aced the Trojans with two goals and an assist in the win over the Jaguars. Katie Haveman and Madison Clarke both chipped in with a goal and an assist, Avery Schultz and Hayley Petylak also scored and Maddie Reamer added a helper in the league affair.
Sophomore newcomer Mariah Montes recorded five saves in six chances for Trenton (1-3-0, 1-0-0).
Allen Park slipped to 1-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the Downriver League.
TROY 3, BRIGHTON 1: Troy handed Brighton its first loss of the young season in this non-league battle of top 15 teams in Division 1. Junior Olivia Jasniewicz netted two goals for the Colts while Sabrina Gall added the other tally. Emma Rozek had an assist in the win for Troy (3-0-1). Brighton fell to 4-1-0 after outsourcing the opposition 10-1 in its first four games.
GOODRICH 7, LAKE FENTON 1: Addy West, Baylor Lauinger and Kayla Shellenbarger all scored two goals as the defending Flint Metro League champions prevailed in this league opener Monday. Jenna Stockwell added a goal and two assists for the Division 2 15th-ranked Martians (2-0-1). Lake Fenton slides to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in FML play.
QUINCY 6, BRONSON 1: Kenzi Maynard recorded the hat trick and added an assist and Quincy recorded a win in the first year that the Big 8 conference has sponsored soccer as a league sport. McKenna Bowerman, Alivia Carpenter and Laura Bostic also scored for the Orioles (4-1-0), who have outscored the opposition 24-6 so far this season.
GARDEN CITY 4, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 2: Garden City scored two goals in each half to double up Crestwood in Western Wayne Athletic Conference play. Emma Miles recorded the hat trick to pace the cougars while Avery Klemola had a goal and two assists. Maya Edwards gained the win in goal.
WATERFORD KETTERING 1, MILFORD 0: Kettering upended defending Lakes Valley conference champion Milford Monday. Elle Dropps scored the game-winner and Savie Satorius had the assists for the Captains.
HOLLY 1, FENTON 0: Holly opened up Flint Metro League play with a narrow shutout win over arch-rival Fenton. Alexis Lindley scored the goal for the Bronchos (2-0-0, 1-0-0) Grace Kubiak gained the clean sheet in net.
WOODHAVEN 8, SOUTHGATE ANDERSON 0: Eight different players netted goals and the Warriors cruised in the Downriver League contest Monday. Woodhaven moved to 2-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the Downriver League.
IMLAY CITY-DRYDEN UNIFIED 3, NORTH BRANCH 2: Imlay City’s Kierstyn Stankevich netted the game-winning goal amongst her two tallies and Imlay City opened up BWAC play with this win Monday. Aryana Atkinson also scored for the Spartans while Wren Dennis had two assists. Kendal Donahue notched 10 saves in 12 chances for the win between the pipes for Imlay City (1-0-0, 1-0-0).
