BYRON CENTER, Mich. – With seven schools departing the Ottawa Kent Conference last summer, a total of 22 schools switched divisions for all sports within the mega conference except for football.

That sport had other divisions created.

In the OKC world of boys soccer and girls soccer, Byron Center was sent from the OKC-White Division to the OKC-Green Division, where the Bulldogs had to try to win a second straight divisional title this spring in girls soccer played a multitude of different schools twice this spring.

Last year Byron Center shared the OKC-White Division overall title with East Grand Rapids.

No problem for Division 1 13th-ranked Byron Center. The talented and deep Bulldogs clinched the OKC-Green title Tuesday, moving to a perfect 9-0-0 for 27 points within the league, ending Muskegon Mona Shores’ eight-year run atop the standings. They did so courtesy of a 2-1 victory over second-place Caledonia.

Byron Center has now outscored the opposition 78-9 with 10 shutouts and are picking up steam along the way. Four of the nine goals conceded this year came back in late MArch during non-conference games.

The Bulldogs’ last and only loss this season under coach John Conlon came back on March 29, when Byron Center dropped a 1-0 decision to East Grand Rapids in the finals of The Byron Center Invite. In fact, the team opened 0-1-2, although the ties were against state-ranked opponents Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern (2-2) and Rockford (1-1).

Byron Center is now 13-1-3, going 13-0-1 in its last 14 games, including the OKC-Green title-clinching win over Caledonia.  Elle Levendecker and Jordan Kerns socred the goals for the Bulldogs, who own a 59-4 scoring edge in league play.

Byron Center can wrap up an unbeaten league season Friday at home with a game against Jenison, a team the Bulldogs beat 8-0 back on April 29.

Overall. Byron Center has averaged 4.59 goals-per-game while defensively the Bulldogs have posted a fine 0.53 goals-against-average.
