Central Michigan University introduced James DeCosemo as the seventh head coach in the history of its women’s soccer program on December 10, 2025, as announced by Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan.

DeCosemo arrives in Mount Pleasant with a proven track record of success across multiple collegiate levels—all within the state of Michigan. The Stokesley, England native most recently guided Aquinas College to national prominence during a dominant three-year run at the NAIA level.

During his tenure with the Saints, DeCosemo compiled a remarkable 55-5-7 overall record, including an undefeated 31-0-3 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. Aquinas captured five WHAC Championships (three regular-season, two tournament) and reached the NAIA National Quarterfinals in both 2022 and 2023. Under his leadership, the Saints earned 10 NAIA All-America honors and 25 All-WHAC selections, including 19 first-team picks, while maintaining a consistent presence in the national rankings—finishing inside the top 10 throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Before taking over at CMU, DeCosemo served as an assistant at Western Michigan University, helping guide the Broncos to both the MAC regular-season and tournament championships in 2025. His coaching résumé also includes assistant roles with Aquinas men’s soccer and the Saginaw Valley State women’s program.

A standout collegiate player at Northwood University, DeCosemo was a three-time GLIAC champion, an all-conference and United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, and led the Timberwolves to the NCAA Midwest Regional Final in 2015. He graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing) and a minor in Management.

DeCosemo also enjoyed an extensive semi-professional playing career, competing for Lansing United for eight total seasons and spending time with Grand Rapids FC. Since 2016, he has served as the Director of Coaching for Nationals Capital Area Soccer Club in Lansing.

He is joined in Mount Pleasant by his wife, Allison, and their son, Oliver.
