KANSAS CITY, Mo. — No. 3 Florida State punched its ticket to the National Championship match on Friday evening, earning a 1–0 victory over No. 2 TCU in the College Cup Semifinal at CPKC Stadium.

With the win, the Seminoles head to the National Championship for the eighth time in program history—and for the fifth time in the last eight seasons. FSU now holds an 88-19-6 all-time record in NCAA Tournament play and sits at 7-7-1 in national semifinal matches. The Seminoles will compete for their fifth national title on Monday, December 8 at 7 p.m. ET, facing the winner of the Stanford–Duke semifinal.

lorida State (15-2-4) extended its unbeaten run to nine straight matches, staying perfect in the NCAA Tournament at 5-0-0. The result snaps TCU’s (18-3-3) 12-game unbeaten streak and marks the Seminoles’ 12th clean sheet of the season and third of the tournament. FSU has now outscored opponents 17–3 during its last seven matches.

Hudson Delivers the Breakthrough

Sophomore forward Wrianna Hudson delivered the decisive moment in the 73rd minute—FSU’s latest opening goal ever scored in a non-scoreless NCAA Semifinal. Hudson’s tally was her team-leading 14th goal of the season, her third of the postseason, and her fourth match-winner.

Senior defender Sophia Nguyen recorded the primary assist—her third of the year and second of the postseason—while sophomore midfielder Peyton McGovern added her second assist of the season.

Seminoles Control the Run of Play

FSU outshot TCU 15–7, including an 8–2 advantage in shots on target. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Ockene finished with two saves, including a dramatic stop in the final seconds to preserve the shutout. TCU’s goalkeeper registered seven saves under heavy pressure.

Junior forward Jordynn Dudley spearheaded the attack with a game-high six shots, while Hudson led all players with two shots on frame.

First Half Highlights

TCU threatened early, forcing Ockene into a save just four minutes in. Florida State quickly responded with back-to-back chances in the seventh and eighth minutes—first from Hudson, then from senior defender Kameron Simmonds off a corner.

FSU’s best look of the opening half came in the 33rd minute when freshman forward Jaida McGrew nearly scored, only to see her shot tipped over the bar.

At halftime, the Seminoles held a 9–3 shot advantage and a 3–1 edge in shots on goal.

Second Half & The Decisive Moment

Florida State continued to apply pressure after the break, generating multiple dangerous chances:

  • 61’ — Junior midfielder Yuna McCormack forced a diving save on a driven shot to the bottom right corner.

  • 66’ — Sophomore forward Taylor Suarez nearly converted on a cross to the right side.

  • 69’ — Junior defender Mimi Van Zanten curled a left-side effort on frame, saved again by TCU.

The breakthrough finally came at 72:47. McGovern played Nguyen into space on the right wing, and Nguyen delivered a pinpoint service into the box. Hudson met it in stride, redirecting the ball with her left foot inside the post for the match’s lone goal.

Just moments later, McCormack nearly doubled the lead, but another strong save kept the match within reach for TCU.

Last-Minute Drama

TCU pushed numbers forward in the final minutes, earning multiple late looks. With three seconds remaining, Ockene made a clutch stop in the goal box to secure FSU’s 12th shutout of the season and send the Seminoles into the national final.

Florida State outshot TCU 6–4 in the second half and held a 5–1 advantage in shots on target.
