BOISE, Idaho — A new era for professional soccer in Idaho is officially underway, as construction has begun on a 6,000-seat soccer-specific stadium on the grounds of Expo Idaho.

The project, led by Expo Sports & Entertainment and Boise Pro Soccer ownership group, is part of a larger redevelopment plan for the 240-acre Expo Idaho site in Garden City, a suburb of Boise. The stadium will anchor the initial phase of the project, with expansion capacity to hold over 11,000 spectators.

The facility is expected to open in time for the spring 2026 season, when a USL League One men’s professional soccer team will begin play. A USL Super League women’s team is also slated to debut in the fall of 2027. Those franchise names for the professional men’s soccer and women’s soccer have not yet been released.

The stadium will also host community events, youth tournaments, and concerts throughout the year. The stadium will also encompass the old grandstand of Les Bois, the site of a former horse race track. The original seating will between 6,000 and 6,500 seats when completed.

A 30-year lease agreement between Ada County and the developers was finalized earlier this year. Under the terms, the county will receive $150,000 annually in lease payments, with no taxpayer funding required for construction. At least $9 million in private investment is earmarked for the first phase of the project.

Plans include pitch-side loge boxes, a standing supporters' section, modern lighting and video board systems, and conversion of the historic Turf Club into a premium viewing area.

The new stadium is just one piece of the wider vision for the Expo Idaho site. The county is also developing a 50- to 90-acre public park adjacent to the stadium, featuring trails, skate parks, playgrounds, and food truck plazas. Phase two of the park project will bring in basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts, tying the venue into a growing community hub.

An absolute win-win for sports fans, community members and residents of Idaho in the not-too-distant future.

The stadium’s flexible design is intended to support the long-term growth of soccer in the region. Should fan demand increase, future phases of construction would allow the venue to scale to accommodate larger crowds.

Groundbreaking took place earlier this spring, with steel and concrete now visible on-site. Officials hope the venue will be ready for a grand opening in early 2026.
