GEORGIA GIRLS SOCCER: Top-ranked Roswell escapes Riverwood in Class 5A first-round match; Marietta Pope, McIntosh advance

ROSWELL, Ga. – Sandy Springs Riverwood did something that few team have been able to do against Roswell this season.
That’s score a goal.
The Raiders did score once Tuesday, but that wasn’t enough to upset Georgia’s top-ranked team. Host Roswell added to its unbeaten streak of 17 games with a 3-1 victory over Riverwood in a Georgia High School Association Class 5A Round of 64 pre-regional contest.
The win advances Roswell – now 17-0-0 overall – into the next round where the Hornets will face Atlanta Lakeside.
Lakeside defeated Newman 7-0 in another first-round game Tuesday.
Natalie Brooks, Rachel Phifer and Ella Hendrix scored for Roswell, which is ranked No. 1 in the state in both Class 5A and Super Ten by the GHSA.
Lilli Suarez gained the win in goal for Roswell, which now owns a 87-4 scoring edge this season.
Sandy Springs Riverwood finished the season with a 13-6-0 record and a 62-25 scoring edge.
MARIETTA POPE 3, SUGARVILLE LANIER 0: Three different players scored goals as Marietta Pope posted the shutout in the Class 5A first-round game. Claire Huebecker, Lily Joswick and Avery Adair scored for the second-ranked Greyhounds (15-3-0). Addison Daughtry made five saves for the clean sheet for Pope, which has a 32-8 scoring edge this season. The Greyhounds advance to the second round to face Peechtree City McIntosh on April 29.
PEECHTREE CITY MCINTOSH 2, DUNWOODY 0: McIntosh scored a goal in each half and advanced to the Class 5A second round with this win Tuesday at home in the GHSA state tournament. The Chiefs own a 70-12 scoring edge with 12 shutouts this season and have won six of their last seven games. During that streak McIntosh (13-5-0) boasts a 26-4 scoring edge with five clean sheets. McIntosh will visit Marietta Pope on April 29 in the Class 5A second round. Dunwoody finishes the season 10-9-0.
CUMMING WEST FORSYTHE 7, LILBURN PARKVIEW 2: The defending Class 6A and third-ranked Wolverines opened up a 4-1 lead by the half and cruised to this opening-round win in the GHSA Class 6A state tournament. Gabi Macer scored the third and fifth goals and Cadence Moore netted the sixth and seventh goals for West Forsythe, which has won three of the last four state titles. Sofia McNabb, AnnMarie Rudloff and Adalynn Singer also scored for the Wolverines (17-1-0), who now boast a 81-14 scoring edge this season. Abby Batis and Megan Rivera also drew assists for West Forsythe. Anna Brazivnas and Christine Ngulefac scored for Lilburn Parkview, which finishes the season 7-10-0.
