Comets Edge Ambush in Shootout at The Family Arena

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Dec. 21, 2025) — The St. Louis Ambush fell in a shootout, 3-2, to the Kansas City Comets on Sunday afternoon at The Family Arena.
The loss dropped the Ambush to 2-2-1 on the season, while Kansas City improved to 5-2-0.
The first quarter was scoreless until the 12th minute, when Henry Ramirez opened the scoring for the Comets. Michael Lenis followed less than two minutes later, giving Kansas City a 2-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the second quarter, and the Comets carried their two-goal advantage into halftime.
St. Louis cut into the deficit in the 13th minute of the third quarter when rookie Mario Falsone scored his first career Major Arena Soccer League goal to make it 2-1.
The Ambush tied the match in the eighth minute of the fourth quarter. Daniel Torrealba collected a long pass from Jeff Michaud and fired a shot from distance to even the score at 2-2. Regulation ended without another goal, sending the match into overtime.
The overtime period was scoreless, forcing a shootout. Kansas City’s Dom Francis converted his attempt, while all three Ambush shooters were turned away, lifting the Comets to the win.
Sunday’s match was the first of four consecutive meetings between the two teams. The series continues Saturday, Dec. 27, when the Comets host the Ambush at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Mo., with kickoff scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT.
St. Louis returns home on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31, when the Ambush host the Comets at The Family Arena for a 3:05 p.m. matinee.
