nn Arbor Huron Boys Soccer Looks to Capitalize on Veteran Core in 2025
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — After finishing second in the SEC Red and falling to rival Saline in both the league and district championship race last fall, Ann Arbor Huron enters 2025 with one of its most experienced groups in recent memory.
The River Rats went 10-5-5 last season and advanced to the district final before their run was halted by Saline. This fall, Huron not only returns a veteran senior class, but also adds two MLS Next players to strengthen the roster as they prepare to host the district tournament.
Veteran Leadership
Huron’s lineup will be anchored by senior goalkeeper Matthew Pletcher, who earned Second Team All-State honors in 2024. Midfielder Philip Leucht (All-State Honorable Mention), forward Kinley Poole (All-State Honorable Mention), and defender Nasser Diarra (All-Region) return to provide balance across the field. Senior defenders Amadou Sidibe and Nolan Prevost also bring stability to the backline.
New Additions
The River Rats welcome two MLS Next players in forward Christopher Zou (Jaguars) and junior defender Andres Garza (Wolves), giving the program a high-level boost in both attack and defense. Both are expected to make an immediate impact.
Key Contributors
Other returners expected to play major roles include forward Malic Kasham, sophomore midfielder Kaito Yoshida, and a core of defenders that will allow Huron to remain difficult to break down.
Program Outlook
Coach’s staff believes this is “the most experienced group we have had in years.” With the opportunity to host the district tournament — while rival Saline hosts the regional — the River Rats hope to stay close to home and capitalize on their depth, maturity, and talent.
After narrowly missing a regional appearance last year, Ann Arbor Huron enters the new season with confidence that this veteran-led squad can push deeper into the postseason.
