With 9-0-0 record, a 35-2 scoring edge and 0.23 GAA, Pensacola primed to make some noise

PENSACOLA, Fla. – It’s safe to say that Pensacola FC’s resume is impressive.

The side has put up gaudy numbers offensively while limiting scoring chances defensively.

And, that’s right, Pensacola FC is unbeaten in the Women’s Premier Soccer League-Gulf Coast Conference. The only thing that could stop this team from gaining 10 wins in the regular season was weather. The team’s season opener against TLH Reckoning was postponed and with the fact that Pensacola FC ran away with the division crown this year that game was never even made up.

Pensacola FC finished a perfect 9-0-0 in the regular season to win the Gulf Coast Conference title outright. In fact, it wasn’t even close.

Pensacola FC Academy was the next closest team in the standings and it finished with 12 points. Pensacola FC registered 27 points to win by 15 points in the six-team standings.

Numbers-wise on the field, undefeated Pensacola FC is even more impressive. Let’s start with defense because defense wins championships. The team posted nine wins with seven shutouts and only conceded two goals all season. Just one goal each to TLH Reckoning (2-1) and Pensacola FC Academy (7-1) is all that got by the stout defense and exceptional goalkeeping.

That’s a 0.23 goals-against-average as a team – the best in the conference by a mile and one of the very best in the WPSL overall and that’s over 130 teams.

Now the offense. Pensacola FC scored 35 this season – that’s a 35-2 scoring edge and a plus-33 in that department – and that also averages out to nearly 3.89 goals-per-game as a team.

Then there are the faces as a ton of players have contributed to the success story this season. Forward Paige Phillips (Pensacola State College) leads the team with 10 goals, while midfielder/back Emma Beltz (University of West Florida) added six goals. Jillian Thompson (West Florida) contributed four goals, Elexia Nelson (West Florida) and Ava Matherne (Eastern Tennessee State University) both chipped in with three goals and both Emily Smith (West Florida) and Addison Smith (West Florida) have scored twice. Three other players have scored one goal each.

Under the framework, Jaidin Kinch (University of Southern Alabama), Maciah Lipsey (West Florida), Mia Ferkranus (West Florida) and Kloe Ernst (University of Mobile) have rotated in goal and have collectively been brilliant.

Defensively, Elexia Nelson, Aila Swinton (University of Louisiana-Lafayette), Bailey Erwig (West Florida), Sydney Magliocca (Southern Mississippi), Aidyn Hagan (Mississippi College), Bela Labovic (West Florida) and Ashlynn Broussard (University of Mobile-Lafayette) have been some of the team’s key defenders as outside or center backs.

There are several others that have contributed this season and to the undefeated record.

The work for Pensacola FC is not done. At least that is what the club hopes for as the WPSL postseason has arrived.

Ranked third nationally in the WPSL Power Rankings, Pensacola FC will take on Delta River Conference champion LA Krewe Rush (5-1-2, 21-9 scoring edge) on July 2 at the Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy Stadium. Game time is set for 8 p.m. ET.
