WAUTWATOSA, Wisc. – Perhaps the one of the biggest games in the WPSL this season has gone Milwaukee's way.
FC Milwaukee Torrent, the defending North Lakes Conference champion, pulled away from rival Green Bay Glory Saturday night, scoring three unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes plus stoppage time in recording a 4-1 victory over visiting Green Bay Glory at Hart Park Stadium.
FC Milwaukee Torrent won the division last season and that included a win over the Green Bay Glory, last year’s league runner-up. The unbeaten Torrent (2-0-0) are now in the driver’s seat in their division.
The Torrent, which now owns a 8-1 scoring edge this season, took a 1-0 halftime lead on a goal by Sophia Balisteri.
Green Bay (2-1-0) tied it in the 64th minute on a goal by Jordan Schaden. The Glory could not maintain any momentum after that goal.
In fact, Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett scored one minute later to put FC Milwaukee up 2-1 and that goal eventually proved to be the game-winner. Cate Down added an insurance tally with her 75th minute goal, while Addison Stanclak capped the scoring and put the game on ice with the fourth goal at 90+2.
Kate Hopma gained the win in goal for FC Milwaukee, which now owns a 8-1 scoring edge this season.
Alexis Torhorst took the loss in goal for Green Bay (2-1-0), which has outscored its opposition 15-5 but now fell into second place with the loss.
