WESTFIELD, Ind. – Everything that the Indy Eleven touched Friday turned to gold.
Well, at least lit up the scoreboard.
The Indy Eleven erupted for four first-half goals and ended up cruising past visiting Lexington SC 5-0 in a USLW League Valley Division match at Grand Park Complex.
After early attempts from Lexington SC, the Girls in Blue armed their defense and held possession in their end for a majority of the first half.
After a crossfield clearance by Jenna Chatterton, Indy Eleven regained the ball. A striking assist in the sixth minute from Olivia Smith enabled Ally Pinto to score a goal outside of the box, which was her first goal of the season.
During the 26th minute, Asa Yamazaki recovered the ball and cleared it to the left of the box. Maddy Osswald then fired a shot into the right of the goal to give her team a 2-0 lead.
In a head-turning two minutes to end the first half, Indy gained possession in the 43rd minute, Katie Bulger was able to center the ball right of the goal for Maddy Osswald, who was able to turn a one touch pass into her second goal of the night. Quickly after, Addie Chester generated a turnover from midfield for her first goal of the season.
The Girls in Blue carried this 4-0 lead into the second half, pressing hard defense into Lexington. Indy was able to keep the ball in their possession for the majority of the match.
Just when the match was coming to a close in the 85th minute, Grace Bahr kicked a long pass from the midfield to Reese Sochacki, who then finished it in the right corner of the net.
The Girls in Blue offense produced 11 shots on goal, and one off the goal post.
Indy Eleven goalkeeper Emily Edwards tied her own season high with six saves and recorded her third clean sheet.
The Girls in Blue will play their next match Wednesday, June 11, at Kings Hammer FC of Cincinnati.
Indy Eleven will host Racing Louisville FC on June 24 at 7 p.m. at Grand Park Events Center. Single-game tickets for all matches can be purchased here.
