FLINT, Mich. – The Flint City Bucks announced Thursday that they have signed midfielder
Matt Dreas from the University of Akron for the upcoming USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.
Dreas is set to join us alongside fellow Akron players Jack Roman and Ashton Kamdem. Akron advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament second round last fall.
Dreas, comfortable in both defensive and box-to-box midfield roles, secured starts in all 21 matches in his second season at Akron. He had a goal and an assist.
The Covington, Kentucky, native gained USL2 experience last summer, when he started seven matches and played 610 minutes for Kings Hammer FC of Cincinnati. As an Akron freshman, Dreas appeared in 11 games. He entered the Zips program as the No. 22 ranked recruit in the Great Lakes Region by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Before college, he developed his skills in the academy of Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati — earning 10 appearances (five starts) for FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS NEXT Pro.
Spanning all games in 2024, the Flint City Bucks finished 15-3-3 overall last season, including 10-1-3 in the Great Lakes Division of the USL League Two Central Conference. The divisional champs finished 2-1 in the USL postseason, topping the Cleveland Force (1-0) and Fort Wayne FC (2-1) before falling in the Central Conference finals (Elite Eight) to eventual North American runner-up Peoria City (1-0).
Against USL League Two competition, Flint City posted a 42-18 scoring edge, including 39-16 (plus-23) in Great Lakes Division play where the team recorded 33 points to qualify for the postseason once again.
Flint City Bucks and Flint City AFC women’s soccer season tickets for the summer 2025 season are on sale now. Visit flintcitybucks.com to join the Flint City family today or to learn more about the club.
