Big Changes in Store for the 2026 Fall UPSL Season

The Fall 2026 UPSL Premier Mid-Atlantic South Conference schedule has dropped and the competition will see some familiar clubs as well as some noticeable absences around the Carolinas this season. There are just six clubs playing this fall, down from the eleven clubs that played the Spring UPSL Premier 2026 campaign.

The defending champs in the South Carolina United Heat are back and poised to defender their crown while Mint Hill and the South Carolina Surf will look to provide a challenge to the Heat for the title this fall.

Two major South Carolina clubs that are noticeably absent from the league are Soda City and Electric City who are not fielding UPSL teams this fall season. Electric City has followed this pattern before and only plays a spring season due to club and college soccer conflicts. Soda City had numerous issues with field availability last spring for both their men’s and women’s teams and appear to be taking the fall to regroup. Also missing this season are regional rivals the Coastal Kings, Charlotte SA, and Asheville FC.

The Gastonia FC Strikers and Pre-College DA are back from the Charlotte area and will be joined by the expansion Sanford Area Soccer League side making it four of the six clubs from North Carolina.

Each team plays 10 regular season matches facing each opponent both home and away.

Three of the six teams will play their home matches at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Pineville, NC making the Sportsplex a busy venue for the league this fall.

August 29 Mint Hill at SC United Heat 6 PM

August 30 Sanford Area at Pre-College DA 6 PM

September 5 SC United Heat at Sanford Area 6 PM

September 5 Pre-College DA at SC Surf 5 PM

September 5 Gastonia at Mint Hill 6 PM

September 19 SC Surf at SC United Heat 7 PM

October 17 SC Surf at Mint Hill 6 PM

October 25 SC United Heat at Mint Hill 6 PM

November 15 SC United Heat at SC Surf 5 PM

Season Predictions:

1. SC United Heat. The Heat are the champs until someone else claims the crown. Too many weapons and too much experience in the Heat camp to think they won’t be the champs again this season.

2. South Carolina Surf. The Surf has a deep talent pool but didn’t have Mint Hill’s number last spring. The team from the Lowcountry should challenge the Heat but just come up short of the top spot in the table as they fall to the Heat but defeat Mint Hill for a second-place finish.

3. Mint Hill FC. Mint Hill has been around and has earned some good results over the Heat in the past. Mint Hill also played in the TST tournament and had a team in NPSL which really divided their spring assets. Despite the past and the now sole focus on UPSL, the Heat and Surf will find results over Mint.

4. Gastonia FC Strikers. Not a strong regular season team, Gastonia turned it on for the playoffs last spring knocking out both Soda city and Briar United before narrowly slipping to Electric City. Survive the regular season again and then cause more chaos in the playoffs is the formula for the Strikers.

5. Sanford Area. Expansion team from central NC. Results will be tough to get versus the top three in the conference. Results versus Gastonia and Pre-College DA should keep the new club off the foot of the table.

6. Pre-College DA. Only two wins last spring for Pre-College DA as they scored just 12 goals in 11 games played. This is a tough conference, especially if fielding a younger team, and the fall 2026 season will prove just the same.

The season kicks off on August 29 and the September 5 match day will go a long way to show how things should shake out in the UPSL Premier Mid-Atlantic conference this fall.
