FLINT, Mich. – Two teams entered Saturday’s game without a loss.
One side exited the showdown and battle of the unbeatens suffering its first taste of defeat.
The Michigan Jaguars ventured into Atwood Stadium on the campus of Kettering University and departed with a 2-0 United Women’s Soccer-Great Lakes Conference victory over home-standing Flint City AFC.
The Jaguars were the first team to score upon Flint City’s stingy defense this season and thus handed the hosts the loss after Flint City enjoyed a pair of impressive shutout wins.

The Michigan Jaguars scored a goal in each half and defended like crazy over in the second half to preserve the win.
Flint City AFC attacked the Jaguars’ back line with wave after wave in the second half but could not find a way to get a shot past goalkeeper Peyton DeLongchamp. A sophomore-to-be at NCAA Division II University of Findlay and a three-time All-State keeper at Pinckney High School during her prep days, Delongchamp patrolled her box with authority by snaring shots, crosses and long serves into the box – essentially anything that Flint AFC could send her way.
She denied them all, finishing with eight official saves but getting her hands and feet on a wide variety of efforts that Flint City could muster. Three times in the match, Delongchamp went full-lateral to deny the hosts from finishing great scoring opportunities.
Flint City AFC outshot the Michigan Jaguars 16-3 in the second half, including 6-2 with shots on frame, and even held a 7-0 edge off cornerkicks during the final 45 minutes plus stoppage time.
But all was for naught.
After starting 2-0-0 with a 10-0 scoring edge, Flint City AFC conceded two goals to the opportunists Jaguars and simply couldn't penetrate a brick wall on Saturday night.
The Michigan Jaguars scored on their fourth shot of the evening off a counterattack to go up 1-0. Ally Wold (University of Tampa) sent a long pass down the center of the park and Mia Lanni (Loyola University) chased it down before slipping home a breakaway past Flint City goalkeeper Alyssa Rankin (Michigan Hawks ECNL) in the 14th minute.
Both teams collected six total shots in the first half, with the Jaguars posting a 4-2 edge with shots on frame but AFC providing a 3-1 edge off cornerkicks.
In the second half, Flint City AFC came out energized, consistently putting high pressure on all Jaguars players up and down the field. Still, Flint City could not sneak one in to level the game.
The Michigan Jaguars added a counterattack goal on their first shot of the second half. Dribbling the ball down the left side, forward Amalia Villarreal spun around and in a fluid motion ripped a left-footed high beam over traffic that sailed into the upper 90 on the right side in the 62nd minute. The goal capped the scoring.
The Jaguars (2-0-0) defended like crazy in the second half and picked up the monster performance from the aforementioned Delongchamp, especially in the second half.
For the game, Flint City AFC (2-1-0) collected a 22-9 overall shots advantage, held a 8-6 difference with shots on goal, and even dominated with cornerkicks with a 10-1 edge.
