Corpus Christi Wins First-Ever Meeting with Greenville

Corpus Christi scored a 10^th minute goal and then saw their goalkeeper make four saves as the Sharks won the first-ever USL League One meeting with the Greenville Triumph.

In a match that saw few clear chances on goal, Corpus Christi scored an early goal on their first real chance in the 10^th minute of play.  The Sharks swung a ball in from the right flank that Bubu Medina was first to reach as he cut inside his mark and flicked the ball with his head past the Triumph keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Greenville had their best chance to score in the 37^th minute as Muba Nour went on a long solo dribble driving the ball from the right flank all the way inside the Corpus Christi penalty area.  Nour after beating several defenders took his shot that flew between the legs of a Sharks defender almost wrong-footing James Talbot in the Shark’s net.  Talbot quickly shifted his weight and punched away this best look at goal from Greenville to send the match to half with the hosts up 1-0.

Corpus Christi had virtually no attack in the second half and Greenville thought they had the game-tying goal in the 78^th minute after a series of headers inside the Shark’s area found Zane Bubb alone at the near post.  Bubb nodded the ball high towards the nets, but Talbot scrambled to recover and tip this dangerous shot over the bar and preserve the score line in favor of Corpus Christi.  Talbot finished with four saves to earn the clean sheet and all three points for the Sharks.

Greenville remains in fifteenth place in the table on 14 points (4W-9L-2T) while Corpus Christi moves into tenth place on 22 points (5W-6L-7T).  Greenville are now 14 points out of the last playoff spot and have a difficult match versus fifth place AC Boise just ahead on July 29 at GE Vernova Park.
