Portland Claims No. 1 as Week Six NCAA Men’s Rankings Shake Up
For the first time this season, the University of Portland sits atop the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I men’s soccer rankings. The Pilots (7-0-1) climbed from No. 2 to No. 1 in Week Six, collecting all eight first-place votes after extending their unbeaten run through the opening month of play.
NC State Slips to No. 2
NC State (7-0-2), which held the top spot last week, dropped to No. 2 after back-to-back draws. Stanford (9-1-1) moved up three places to No. 3, while Vermont (7-0-3) climbed to No. 4. Bryant (9-0-1) continued its remarkable start, vaulting into the Top 5 for the first time in program history.
Georgia Southern Headlines Major Climbers
Georgia Southern (8-0-1) made one of the biggest moves of the week, rising from No. 19 to No. 6. High Point (No. 7), West Virginia (No. 8), Duke (No. 9), and UNC Greensboro (No. 10) round out the Top 10. Both Duke and UNCG surged after unbeaten stretches, while Michigan (previously No. 5) fell back to No. 11.
New Entries to the Poll
Four programs cracked the Top 25 this week:
Princeton (No. 13, 6-1-0)
Georgetown (No. 14, 6-2-2)
Akron (No. 19, 7-2-1)
Furman (No. 25, 5-1-3)
Oregon State (5-3-0) also returned to the poll, tied with Akron at No. 19.
Notable Drops
Several ranked sides stumbled in Week Six:
Saint Louis slid from No. 8 to No. 21 after a pair of defeats.
Marshall, once as high as No. 4, dropped to No. 22.
Indiana tumbled from No. 3 to No. 12 following back-to-back losses.
Also Receiving Votes
Several programs remain on the outside looking in: Delaware (11), Cornell (10), Boston University (7), Clemson (6), Florida Atlantic (4), Gardner-Webb (4), George Mason (3), SMU (2), Utah Valley (2), North Carolina (1), and California Baptist (1).
