Palmetto State Report: June Soccer Preview

Must-See Soccer Matches Just Ahead in South Carolina

The month of June is one of the best times of the year for soccer in South Carolina. All the leagues are in full swing and there will be soccer matches in every corner of the state. There are multiple matches each week during June and here are some of the marquee matches coming soon to the Palmetto State.

May 31: Technically not in the month of June, but the UPSL Columbia derby between the SC United Heat and Soda City at Irmo High School will have huge playoff implications as the top two teams in the Mid-Atlantic South conference battle for the regular season crown and home-field advantage in the UPSL playoffs. Kickoff is at 6 PM.

June 3: The Greenville Triumph will open their new stadium and permanent home, GE Vernova Park at BridgeWay, in Mauldin versus Forward Madison. The Triumph have played matches around the Upstate at Legacy Early College, Bob Jones University, Furman University, and Clemson University in previous USL1 seasons. The move to the new park will also set the stage for the Liberty to return in 2027 in either the USL W-League or the USL Super League. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.

June 6: The Charleston Battery will host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in Prinx Tires USL Cup action at the Point. The Hounds are defending USLC champions and there is always a great match between these two perennial powers when they meet up on the field. Charleston is at the top of their USL Cup group, and a win here could put some distance between the Battery and the rest of the field in the Cup standings. Kickoff is at 7 PM.

June 6-7: The UPSL Premier playoffs begin this weekend, and all four South Carolina-based clubs should have a great shot at being in the field. The format from last season saw the top four teams in the Mid-Atlantic North and South advance to the postseason. The Heat and Soda have been in the top two spots all season long and will host matches in the first round while the expansion Surf should be either third or fourth and be on the road in NC in the first round. The hottest team in the conference is Electric City on a four-match winning streak, and they have jumped all the way from the bottom of the table to fourth place over the last month of soccer. If the playoffs began today, the Heat would host NCFC Academy, Soda would host Sporting Soccer Academy, the Surf would be on the road at Briar United, and Electric City would play away at AC Raleigh.

June 6: The first of three South Carolina United Bantams doubleheader matches will be played at the Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Park as the ladies play Wake FC in USL W-League action while the men play Port City in USL 2. Both matches kickoff at 7 PM on all these Bantams double match days. The other double match days are June 10 and June 20 with a 7 PM kickoff.

June 10: The Greenville Triumph will host USL Championship side Loudoun United in Prinx Tires USL Cup action at GE Vernova Park. Kickoff is at 7 PM. This will be the second match at the new stadium and the first time a higher division opponent has visited the new park. Both Greenville and Loudoun are looking for a win in the USL Cup play and this should be a wide-open match with both teams looking to climb in the Cup standings.

June 13: The Soda City FC women will host two doubleheaders this season at Irmo HS as both the USPL Women and WPSL Women will play matches the same afternoon. The first doubleheader on June 13 will see the UPSL Women hosting Rush United at 3 PM followed by the WPSL Women hosting NCFC at 6 PM.

June 20: The Soda City FC women will host another doubleheader as both the USPL Women and WPSL Women play that afternoon at Irmo HS. The UPSL match will have some extra interest around the Palmetto State as it will be against the expansion, in-state rival Royal Cavaliers FC at 3 PM. The WPSL match versus NCFC will follow at 6 PM.
