Triumph Earns Win and Draw in Recent Matches
The Greenville Triumph earned four points from their recent matches with a 3-0 win over the New York Cosmos and a 0-0 draw versus Sarasota Paradise. William Akio scored a brace in the win over the Cosmos and goalkeeper Amal Knight made 6 huge saves to preserve the 0-0 result versus the Paradise. The Triumph are slowly climbing the USL League One table and are now in fourteenth place. The next match is a Prinx Tires USL Cup match at home against the Richmond Kickers on July 11.
South Carolina United Heat Advances to National Round of 16
The South Carolina United Heat won a wild 5-3 match over Virginia Champions Los Toros in the UPSL Premier National Round of 32 match played in Raleigh last weekend. Tom Marriott scored a brace to lead the Heat attack in the match that had a three-hour weather delay, went to extra time, and was forced to move fields due to a USL2 scheduled match at the WRAL complex. The Heat will now play Tennessee Tempo in the Round of 16 on July 11 in Atlanta.
Battery Falls at Indy Eleven
The Charleston Battery dropped a 2-0 results to the Indy Eleven on the road on Independence Day. A red card with just under 30 minutes to play spoiled the 0-0 score line for the Battery as the Eleven turned in a free kick and then used the extra man to tack another goal on in second-half stoppage time to get the result. Charleston stays in second place in the Eastern Conference and has a huge USL Cup match versus the Charlotte Independence on the schedule for July 11. The winner between the Battery and Independence on July 11 will win the USL Cup group and advance to the knockout stage. Kickoff is at 7:30 on Saturday.
Bantams Fall to Visiting Independence 2
The South Carolina United Bantams USL2 team slipped 1-4 versus the South Atlantic Division Champion Charlotte Independence 2. After falling behind early, Isaiah Whittaker-Francis tied the game for the Bantams in the 23rd minute before the Independence pulled ahead for good just before the half in route to the final 4-1 result. The Bantams are in fifth place in the division and have one final game this season at Appalachian FC on July 12.
Royal Cavaliers slip in UPSL Women’s Conference Final
The Royal Cavaliers FC capped a historic first season of play by winning their first-ever playoff match 1-0 over the Carolina Crew and advancing to the USPL Women’s Mid-Atlantic Final. Varinia Delgado scored the huge goal in the semifinals to lift the Cavaliers to victory. In the Conference Final, the Cavaliers came up just short falling 0-2 to the undefeated Rush United. The Cavaliers finished with a regular season record of 5W-2L-1T, scoring 16 goals.
USL Monthly Honors for the Battery
Head Coach Ben Pirmann has been named the USL Championship June Coach of the Month while Battery team captain Emilio Ycaza has been named the USL Championship June Player of the Month. The Battery were undefeated in USL Championship play during June and have kept pace with the first-place Tampa Bay Rowdies just ahead of the Battery in the table. Coach Pirmann’s selection was unanimous with him receiving 100% of the votes for his fifth Coach of the Month honor while coaching in the USLC. Ycaza was a driving force in Battery midfield scoring two goals while adding three assists while helping control the rhythm of play in June.
