Orlando City Rolls Past Toronto FC 3-0 as Griezmann's Hot Streak Continues

Toronto came to sunny Florida with a 7-game unbeaten streak looking to continue their climb up the Eastern Conference table. Orlando City SC is sporting their own 4 game unbeaten streak to include back-to-back wins. Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot in an extremely tight Eastern Conference table that has 7 teams separated by less than 3 points, making this matchup very important for both sides.

Orlando City playing their 3^rd game in 8 days started the match up with Crepeau manning the goal with defenders Brekalo, Iago, Taifi and Angulo in front of him. The midfield consisted of Gerbet, Otavio, Pasalic, Ojeda and Spicer, with Griezmann up top. This lineup gave guys like Jansson and Ellis a chance to rest to come in as subs if needed later in the game.

Orlando City had a great chance in the 11^th minute as a great build up led to Spicer getting the ball into the box where he was able to take a great shot on goal but Gavran was able to just get a hand up to it to tip it over the crossbar. The following corner ended up being a counter attack for Toronto where they would get a chance to fire one on goal off a volley, however Crepeau would get to it and keep it out of goal.

In the 32^nd minute a free kick would lead to a VAR moment when Griezmann took the free kick from distance where he sent the ball into the box where a Zimmerman would head it into the goal for an own goal. After review it was indicated that Zimmerman was nudged by Otavio who was offsides as the play began, taking the goal away from Orlando. After the review Toronto got a really good chance as Etienne would sneak in for a one-on-one situation but his shot would go wide of goal.

Right before halftime in the 45^th minute Orlando was on the attack when Taifi would find a sprinting Griezmann

deep into the box. Griezmann finished this attack by getting a nice sliding touch to the ball to beat Gavran bouncing the ball off the crossbar and into the goal, making it 1-0 Orlando just before halftime. This gives Griezmann 8 goals now in 10 matches since joining Orlando this summer.

Another VAR moment game in the stoppage time of the first half when goalkeeper Gavran made a play for the ball and took down Ojeda. The referee initially called for a penalty as he thought Gavran never touched the ball. However, Gavran did get to the ball first in his slide making the call reversed and no penalty.

Toronto came out firing in the second half with 2 quick chances within the first 5 minutes. However, on both chances Crepeau would come up with the saves including one that came from a shot just outside the 6-yard box. The other one was a cross that he got a hand to that likely kept a Toronto player from being able to get a clean chance as the ball would go out of play.

In the 82^nd minute Orlando would get another goal, this time by Sarajian who had to do some magic on this one. Initially he went up for a lob pass, coming down with it dodging a couple defenders before bobbling the ball to Dike who would pass it back to Sarajian to finish it. Gavran had no opportunity to get to it as he was stunned on the shot.

During stoppage time of the second half Toronto was putting on all sorts of pressure trying to get at least one goal back. First off, a free kick Sargent would hit the crossbar and then just seconds later Edwards would have his shot blocked by Crepeau. It felt like Toronto was getting close to getting within 1 goal of this one.

However, in the 96^th minute Angulo would get the feed from Ellis, get around his defender just enough to get a shot off. That shot would go just under the legs of Gavran to make it 3-0 Orlando just before time would expire. Orlando would move to 5 games unbeaten with 3 straight wins and 4 wins over that time.

For Griezmann his goal in the 45^th minute marked 5 straight games with a goal for him as his form has just continued to get better for Orlando. Sarajian scored his first goal in the MLS in just his 7^th game up with the first team. Orlando has little time to celebrate as they fly to Columbus for their match up against Columbus Crew in their Semi-Final match of the US Open Cup. They then go to New England next Saturday as they will look to continue their great form of MLS play against the New England Revolution. Orlando looks like a team that will be hard to beat as the season continues and they look to capitalize on that when they face off against Columbus for a chance to advance to the finals looking to add a second US Open Cup championship to their legacy.
