NATIONAL ACADEMY LEAGUE: Four second-half goals propel Michigan Wolves U15 past FC United SC Chicago

LIVONIA, Mich. – Behind four second-half goals, the Michigan Wolves U16 NAL team recorded its first win of the season Sunday in the National Academy League Mid America North Division.
The Wolves put four straight shots into the back of the net over a span of 19 minutes to record a 4-0 victory over FC United SC-Chicago at Schoolcraft College’s Trinity Sports Dome.
The Wolves held a 19-15 overall shots edge in the game, including 10-8 with shots on goal, and even held a 4-3 edge off cornerkicks.
Owen Covino laced a shot from 25 yards out in the 59th minute to put the Wolves up 1-0 and that goal proved to be the game-winner. Covino set up teammate Kian Ono with an insurance tally in the 65th minute for the 2-0 lead.
The Michigan Wolves were not done.
Mason Simons tallied in the 69th minute off a header, while Kian Ono had the helper on Adam Thjomas’ goal in the 78th minute that capped the scoring.
Thomas Rockwood recorded four saves in each half and finished with eight stops in recording the team’s first clean sheet of the season.

U19 NATIONAL ACADEMY LEAGUE
FC UNITED SC-CHICAGO 3, MICHIGAN WOLVES 0: FC United SC-Chicago U19 NAL side scored a goal in the 20th minute and then tacked on two more scores after half in recording this shutout Sunday afternoon at Schoolcraft College’s Trinity Sports Dome in National Academy League Mid America North Division play.
Amando Limon roped a curling free kick from the right side and the left-footed hook shot sailed into the back of the net from just outside the box. That goal staked FC United to a 1-0 advantage and later proved to be the game-winner.
Ryland Avants knocked home a rebound following a shot from Boden Ruprecht to give his side a 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute.
Noah Capocchi headed home a cross from Argael Hernandez in the 75th minute to cap the scoring for the visitors.
Luke Hales notched the shutout on five saves and was quite active patrolling the box and snaring a multitude of crosses and set pieces out of the air.
The Wolves flooded the FC United’s side of the field during the first 20 minutes but could not capitalize on their possession and chances. FC United came down with three shots in less than a two-minute span and scored on just its third shot of the game which put FC United in the driver’s seat.
FC United SC-Chicago outshot the Michigan Wolves 13-7 overall, including 11-5 with shots on goal in the win.
