GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Minnesota United FC issued a formal medical update today regarding midfielder James Rodríguez, addressing the health scare that sidelined the Colombian international following the recent FIFA break.

The club confirmed that Rodríguez reported to the training facility on Monday, April 6, to begin a supervised "return-to-activity" program. His reintegration into full team training will be dictated by clinical progress and overseen by the Loons' medical department.

Timeline of Events

The health concerns began following Colombia's international friendly against France on Sunday, March 29. According to the club, Rodríguez started experiencing symptoms of dehydration immediately after the match, which significantly worsened over the following 24 hours.

  • Monday, March 30: After a secondary medical evaluation, Rodríguez was diagnosed with severe dehydration.

  • Tuesday, March 31: Due to the "severity of the clinical presentation," he was admitted to a hospital for continuous monitoring and intravenous (IV) fluid therapy.

  • April 1–5: Following his discharge, the midfielder recovered at home under strict medical supervision before returning to Minnesota.

Addressing Speculation

In a direct move to squash mounting rumors, Minnesota United’s medical staff took the opportunity to correct misinformation regarding the nature of the illness.

"The club and our medical professionals can unequivocally state there has been no clinical or laboratory evidence of rhabdomyolysis," the club stated in its official release.

Rhabdomyolysis is a serious condition involving the breakdown of muscle tissue that can lead to kidney damage, often associated with extreme physical overexertion. By specifically naming and denying this condition, the club sought to alleviate fears of a long-term, career-threatening injury.

Looking Ahead

While Rodríguez is back on-site, his availability for Minnesota’s upcoming MLS fixtures remains "day-to-day." The club emphasized that player privacy and health are the top priorities and requested that the public and media refrain from further health speculation.

Rodríguez, who joined the Loons as a Marquee signing to anchor the midfield, has been a focal point of the club's 2026 campaign. Supporters will be eager to see how quickly he can transition from IV fluids back to the pitch at Allianz Field.

Any further updates on his status for this weekend's match will be provided through the club’s official communication channels.
