NEW YORK — Major League Soccer has officially issued a suspension to Inter Miami CF midfielder Yannick Bright following an incident during the club's April 18 match against the Colorado Rapids.

The league determined that Bright violated its Non-Discrimination Policy, leading to a multi-game sanction and a required restorative education program.

Breakdown of the Suspension

The disciplinary action against Bright is structured in two parts:

  1. Red Card Fulfillment: Bright sat out Inter Miami's midweek road victory over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, April 22, to serve the automatic one-match suspension triggered by the red card he received during the incident.

  2. Additional League Sanction: MLS has tacked on a second game to the suspension. Bright will be unavailable for selection this Saturday, April 25, when Inter Miami returns home to host the New England Revolution at Nu Stadium.

In addition to the playing ban, Bright is currently participating in and must successfully complete a restorative practice program sanctioned by the league.

League Review and Policy

In a statement, Major League Soccer emphasized that several factors are considered when determining the length and nature of such suspensions. The league noted that it weighs a player's "immediate acceptance of responsibility for harm caused by the misconduct," their "eagerness to begin a process to repair it," and their level of cooperation throughout the league’s review process.

The Non-Discrimination Policy is a cornerstone of MLS's commitment to maintaining an inclusive environment, and the league’s swift action underscores its zero-tolerance approach to discriminatory conduct on the pitch.

Impact on Inter Miami CF

The loss of Bright comes at a busy juncture for the "Herons." While the team is currently riding an eight-match unbeaten run and sits near the top of the Eastern Conference, the absence of the midfielder thins Head Coach Guillermo Hoyos's options for Saturday’s clash against New England.

Bright’s return to team activities will be contingent on his progress within the required restorative program. For now, the club will look to maintain its momentum at home without the young midfielder as they face a Revolution side looking to climb the table.
