MLS adds 3-game ban to Inter Miami’s Luis Suárez; six-game Leagues Cup suspension stands
NEW YORK — Major League Soccer on Monday issued a three-match suspension to Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez for his role in the postgame melee at the Aug. 31 Leagues Cup final, adding to the six-game Leagues Cup ban he received last week. Suárez will miss Miami’s league matches Sept. 13 at Charlotte FC, Sept. 16 vs. Seattle Sounders FC and Sept. 20 vs. D.C. United, MLS said. mlssoccerReuters
The Leagues Cup Organizing Committee previously suspended Suárez six matches—to be served in future editions of the tournament—after video showed him spitting on a Seattle staff member. AP News
MLS also revoked the credential privileges of Seattle assistant Steven Lenhart for the remainder of the 2025 regular season and postseason, and the Sounders were fined for misappropriation of credentials. Miami midfielders Sergio Busquets and defender Tomás Avilés did not receive additional MLS punishment; they remain subject to two-match and three-match Leagues Cup suspensions, respectively. mlssoccerReutersSI
The incident occurred moments after Seattle’s 3–0 win. Footage showed Suárez in the middle of the confrontation and later spitting on the Sounders’ security director, an act captured on the broadcast. He later apologized on Instagram, calling his behavior a mistake. ESPN.com+1The Guardian
