WEST MICHIGAN – National Soccer Network (NSN) is proud to announce that Midwest United FC has officially joined the network as an Elite Club Member, strengthening NSN’s mission to showcase and support top soccer organizations across the country.

Founded with the purpose of growing the game of soccer in West Michigan, Midwest United FC brings a long-standing tradition of excellence, community impact, and player development to the NSN platform. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the club is committed to fostering growth in youth athletes both on and off the field through team sports and structured development pathways.

A cornerstone of Midwest United FC’s mission is its Player Assistance Program, which helps fund participation opportunities for players who otherwise may not be able to afford club soccer. This commitment to accessibility aligns closely with NSN’s goal of elevating the sport while expanding opportunities for athletes at every level.

A Legacy Built Over Decades

While Midwest United FC officially adopted its current name in 2015, the club’s roots trace back more than three decades.

The organization began in 1990 as the Grand Rapids Area Soccer Association (GRASA), becoming the first youth select soccer club in Grand Rapids with just 60 registered players. In 1996, the club evolved into Grand Valley Premier SC, serving as the area’s only premier soccer club for the next decade.

In 2007, GRASA and Grand Valley Premier merged to form Grand Rapids Crew Juniors, the first junior club affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew. During this era, the club achieved significant success, highlighted by a U17 Boys National Championship in 2011.

The transition to Midwest United FC in 2015 reflected a unified vision. The name symbolizes regional competition across the Midwest, a united club philosophy, and a connection to the global game through the “Football Club” identity. Since then, the club has continued to excel, including a U16 Girls National Championship in 2016.

Continued Growth Across West Michigan

In 2024, Midwest United FC expanded its footprint to better serve players and families throughout West Michigan, adding programs in Kalamazoo, Wyoming/Grandville, and Rockford. While the Kalamazoo and Inter locations were built from the ground up, the Rockford expansion came through a strategic partnership with Soccer Club of Rockford (SCOR), uniting two of the region’s most respected soccer organizations.

The club’s visual identity reflects its deep connection to the community. The return to blue and white honors the GRASA and Grand Valley Premier years, while the royal blue represents the Grand River flowing through Grand Rapids. The crest features a star symbolizing the city, the outline of Michigan to represent the statewide reach of the club, and additional stars marking national championship success.

Looking Ahead with NSN

As an Elite Club Member of National Soccer Network, Midwest United FC will receive enhanced coverage, storytelling opportunities, and digital exposure while continuing its mission to develop confident players, employ top-tier coaches, and compete in elite leagues across the country.

NSN looks forward to partnering with Midwest United FC as the club continues to grow the game, build champions, and impact communities throughout Michigan and beyond.
